Georgia Legislature is on to take up several bills to change schools in the state the first priority of which is the opening of new charter schools. The charter school movement is the focus of state level activity that allows public school systems to convert entirely to charter schools. This would mean exemption from public school regulations and the freedom to choose how to meet NCLB act standards. The main approach is to promote innovative fashion unrestrained by state laws. In line with their effort to upgrade performance standards the state created a new curriculum in mathematics by which performance standards were divided into four components namely content, illustrated task, student work and teacher commentary. This shall be the teachers’ guideline in making their lesson plans. They further formed the Quality Assurance Division to analyze and monitor outcome of policies of existing school system’s impact on students’ performance related achievements for proper evaluation and recommendation of action. There is a community effort going on at Decatur where refugees from some forty countries and low income families flocked together outside Atlanta. Parents gather to help prepare boxes of food for these families while teachers try to do more on flexibility, psychology, and strategy educating this much diversified student population. Teachers at schools like Stanton Elementary also do more than teaching to excel and help their students pass the Reference Competency Test greatly improving test scores of students. Teachers stay late to tutor a student while students respond by coming to school disciplined and ready to learn. Technology also played a major role for kindergarten students who are regularly working on computers dramatically learning and creating Powerpoint presentations. Teachers, schools and the community in Georgia are working hand in hand to help develop the school system to help students with their specific weaknesses and give them the chance to move ahead. To fully support schools, Georgia Department of Education conducted a series of online training sessions to serve students with disabilities. The sessions were live and interactive, recorded and archived.
