One of the programs created by Maine Department of Education is Maine Literacy Partnership. Maine Literacy partnership is a professional development program that assigns each affiliated school a full time literacy coach. It aims to support teachers in grades K6 refine their literacy teaching. This University of Maine based partnership comprehensive model worked to attain higher literacy outcomes of students by increasing communication skills. Maine Research Internships for Teachers and Students (MERITS) is a program that facilitate placement of interested teachers and students in science and technology to laboratory or field settings. The Maine Teacher of the Year Program serves to honor all the excellent teachers in Maine by recognizing the most outstanding teacher annually. In School Administration District #3, parent involvement programs were created to involve parents in curricular and instructional planning.
