Summary:

MCAS comments from communities’ states that MCAS does not measure everything a child knows and be able to accomplish in the future. One test should really not be a determinant of someone’s career. The state has not absolutely made the progress they were expected to make and that school districts now risk losing federal money if the problem of not being able to do anything toward licensing all teachers is not resolved. To increase learning effectiveness among students, the Massachusetts Teachers Association in conjunction with Staples established readingmatters.org website. The website contains reading tips and links to help promote reading and literacy. The Northeast Massachusetts/ Southern New Hampshire Regional School-to-Career Consortium works through its partnership of employers, school systems, and post-secondary institution helping students apply classroom knowledge to real work situations. The Consortium provides quality educational experiences by pooling resources to participate in programs created to fill the gap between employers and education institutions. The program was responsive to the needs of employers while supporting academic preparation and education reforms of the present school system. State officials wanting to fix the system has set on the guiding principle of education reform which is to increase student learning and strengthen academic coursework of prospective teachers. Massachusetts educational quality and accountability standards regularly utilized criteria-referenced and norm-referenced student assessment tests. All tests are being documented, monitored, and evaluated to be able to determine the effectiveness of the curriculum and instruction. Strategies and action plans were then created to improve student performance. Massachusetts knew they still have a long way to go but they are taking the challenge to do what they need to do to improve the system and help both their teachers and students.
