Nevada is considering pumping out education spending from gaming taxes. Average teacher’s salary impacts students’ achievements and the state is trying to fill in the salary gap to motivate teachers become more effective in their classrooms. The Nevada Legislature embraces constant innovation to cope with the changing needs of its students. The Legislature required revision or submission of improvement plans from schools and school districts yearly. Submission is regardless of its AYP performance. Nevada reaches out to all children in compliance with the No Child Left Behind Act. Home schooling is allowed for children between 7 and 17 years of age. A child that is still 6 years of age may opt to apply for waiver of attendance. Notice of Intent Forms is provided for one time filing. Creating change at the University of Nevada, Project TITE-N worked to increase pre-service teachers’ proficiency in the application of modern technology to K12 instruction. TITE-N stands for Technology in Teacher Education – Nevada. Schools targeted for the program are those belonging to the remote parts of the state and teachers with Title I designation. TITE-N pilots the electronic portfolio program in the state. The Northern Nevada Writing Project have been promoting the teaching of writing duly recognizing teachers expertise and leadership pooling in resources to be shared among Northern Nevada Schools This is a free service that gives high quality lessons on skill and writer’s craft. Adult basic education professional development workshops, strategies, techniques, applications and lessons for writing in the ESL, ABS, and GED classroom were also provided by the state. The state believes that teaching effective reading strategies to ESL students will help improve standardized test scores so they focus on to improving the reading skills of both adult and children to facilitate implementation of any change in the school system.
