Summary:

Technology has no limitations on the school board’s effort to be persuasive and wholly supportive on its student’s education. A Rhode Island school district uses Radio Frequency Identification or RFID technology to monitor and track the activities of its students. RFID tags will be attached to the books or bags of its children who rides buses to and from school. Global positioning System allows school officials to locate buses while RFID tags allows both school officials and parents to locate their children if they were safely on their ride home with the bus. The children’s safety is the school’s accountability and their efficiency in providing education and safe environment just got better with the introduction of these RFID tags. It’s not an easy task to locate each of the thousand students the school is dedicated to protect and educate. Technology just provided what one man can’t do: track each of these kids and ensure they go straight home after classes. Learning from a very much technology inclined environment is more fun and challenging. In Rhode Island, RISF is helping teachers integrate robotic design activities into their classrooms. The organization provides a real good insight and experience for students to act like real writers, real mathematicians and real designers. This will help develop student’s technological fluency and see what talent and creativity emerges out of the sessions that they could tap to excel. The theme is letting out and defining real talents and gifts then develop that talent through a variety of structured workshops and student challenges. RITTI 2000 program is a partnership of the Rhode Island Department of Education, the University of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Foundation. RITTI 2000 provides laptop computers, training and continued technical support for the educators of Rhode Island. The latest two new programs of RITTI 2000 named the School Leadership Initiative and the Model Classroom Initiative is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. SLI involves principals and superintendents while MCI involves teachers. The sessions are meant to develop leader’s technology skills and explore various ways to create technology rich learning environments. Vision is good in creating initiatives to its fulfillment and the Rhode Island Department of Education has just started creating those links to fulfilling those visions of world class high technology classroom learning while complying with the No Child Left Behind Act.
