A Rhode Island school district uses Radio Frequency Identification or RFID technology to monitor and track the activities of its students. RFID tags will be attached to the books or bags of its children who rides buses to and from school. Global positioning System allows school officials to locate buses while RFID tags allows both school officials and parents to locate their children if they were safely on their ride home with the bus. The children’s safety is the school’s accountability and their efficiency in providing education and safe environment just got better with the introduction of these RFID tags. It’s not an easy task to locate each of the thousand students the school is dedicated to protect and educate. Technology just provided what one man can’t do: track each of these kids and ensure they go straight home after classes. Learning from a very much technology inclined environment is more fun and challenging. In Rhode Island, RISF is helping teachers integrate robotic design activities into their classrooms. This will help develop student’s technological fluency and see what talent and creativity emerges out of the sessions that they could tap to excel. The theme is letting out and defining real talents and gifts then develop that talent through a variety of structured workshops and student challenges.
