Virginia State practices and promotes education with a click. At Rockingham, Virginia a student only need to download the FirstClass installer, configure the program and have the same features and look as the one they have in school. The Virginia Information Technologies Agency fully supports elearning and use of technology arranging contracts for the purchase of personal computers and related devices to full time licensed teachers for use outside the classroom. Teachers purchases are limited to only one unit per year availed at state discounts from participating suppliers. Pearson offers Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment for Teacher Licensure via computer-based testing at Pearson VUE testing centers. Virginia teachers who are aspiring for the teacher licensure testing are given the option to take the reading and writing skills assessments on test dates schedule and test centers convenient to them. Education is always one big issue for the legislature, Senior Year Plus was offered to better prepare students after high school graduation. The students were given two options namely Early College Scholars and Path to Industry Certification. Early College Scholars program allows qualified students to earn at least 15 hours of transferable credits towards a college degree. The credits can be earned through dual enrollment programs or by taking Advanced Placement Courses. The Path to Industry Certification program allows students to work on a selected industry credential or state licensure while pursuing high school studies. Virtual Virginia provides a list of software and hardware requirements as well as the registration instructions and course information being offered. Course offerings were already approved to carry the Advance Placement designation for the upcoming school year. Tuition and Advance Placement examination fees of students participating in the Early College Scholars program were paid by the Department of Education. To keep the education community and local community updated, Virginia Department of Education created videos featuring news events related to public education and department initiatives. The effort is aimed to raise student achievement, improve learning process and improve teaching strategies. Videos are mostly done in Microsoft Media Files and require Adobe Flash Player plug-in.
